Q:Hi, uh, I've been kinda wanting to tell my parents that I'm very much gay, but unfortunately, last time I asked them what they thought about gay people... I almost got kicked out for saying I don't see anything wrong with it. But now its a lot better (beside the homophobia) its been a few years since that happened and I haven't gone out with anyone yet so I don't know how to tell my parents (and make them believe) that I'm gay. Any suggestions ^^;;?
Hey anon, sorry if you had to wait so long! :(
I’ve actually been thinking of a good solution for you for the past couple days…
I know this may not be the answer you’re looking for, but I suggest laying low for now.
Don’t ruin things if you’re scared and unsure. How many kids need to run up to their parents and announce they’re straight if they don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend?
Don’t put yourself in that unhealthy situation if you don’t think they’ll react well.
For now, just let them know that you do support gay rights, stand firm in your beliefs and don’t back down, but don’t make yourself vulnerable just yet. Not while you’re still young and dependent on them.
